Personal Support Coach 1:1

Hourly Salary: $11.06 Hourly

Job Type:  Non Exempt Part Time 

Shift: Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

Hours per pay period: 70 hours bi-weekly

Location: Spring Dell Center, Inc., La Plata, MD

Job Description:

A part-time position (35 hours per week) is available (Monday – Friday, 8:30 - 3:30 Monday) for an interested applicant to support a young man that we are still getting to know. We do know he enjoys watching TV; especially Sanford & Son and I Love Lucy. He also enjoys riding in the car and playing on the computer. He is very curious and likes to explore his surroundings. While he is non-verbal he does use a combination of word approximations, signs, gestures, and communication output devices such as communication charts, boards and books to communicate his needs, wants, and feelings. He would like to become more independent. HE gets along well with others; he is happy and very affectionate. He prefers to be with family nd friends and follow a routine. We are excited to hire a staff that will support him with meaningful days in the community that will lead to volunteer and or employment experiences. 

Preference will be given to the person, who can demonstrate the abilities to communicate with him by learning his body language because he does not speak; be creative with other communication devices, organized, motivated and able to encourage him to experience and try new experiences in the community. The successful applicant for this position will be a self-starter, and have the ability to schedule community experiences and activities as well as provide assistance in vocational exploration/endeavors that are of interest to this young man. The applicant will also need to be independent with problem solving and working independently as they assist him to achieve his personal, social and vocational goals in the community, not a facility setting. An ideal employee will serve as an active role model that welcomes new opportunities, some possible challenges, and embraces the chance to enhance this young man’s life experiences. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to be routine oriented, observant, and yet adaptable when a situation warrants a quick change.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Implementing person centered goals for this young man.
  • Assisting this young man with monitoring/documenting his progress.
  • Assisting him with his personalized plans.
  • Supporting him with a schedule of supports in the community 5 days per week.
  • Supporting him in planning activities that promote interest for employment, volunteering and events; all in the community.
  • Supporting him with identifying other needed supports to be successful in the community.
  • Supporting him with monitoring his health, hygiene, and well-being. 

Qualifications and Skills

       Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Clean driving record with 2 years driving experience.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Experience working with disabled adults preferred.

       Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.
